Accountants and accountancy practices are considered data processors and data controllers when providing services to clients, depending on the contractual relationship and which party decides the purpose and means of processing, e.g. defining what personal data to collect or what systems to use. Everyone responsible for using data has to follow strict rules called data protection principles. Every accountant and/or accountancy practice should be registered with the ICO. Make sure your accountant is registered.
